Student Arrival

So yesterday was student arrival day. What a fun mess that was! We have a very complicated extensive spreadsheet with all of our students, or as my office manager abbreviates it STDs (LOL), what flight, what time it is to arrive, what terminal and what shuttle the person is to be on.

Our 4 T.A.'s (teacher assistants), were charged with the pick up the STDs from the airport. The first plane was due to arrive at 7:10 am so that means they had to be at the airport by that time and since the airport is at least a half an hour from the university, they had to be in a taxi by 6:30ish.

We had 2 TA's in the two international terminals, T1 and T4. Then with the rotating shuttle schedule, 2 of the TA's stayed at the airport until the last shuttle at 6:30pm. Which made for a long day for them.

Overall it was a pretty successful arrival day in my humble opinion. We only had 1 lost bag, which evidently is common place for Iberia.

Then the cafeteria here in the residencia was NOT prepared for the number of students we have. Between our program and CTY-Espana, students and staff there is about 240 of us. So last night I didn't get to eat because I wanted to make sure all of the kids had enough. And after "dinner" I was charged with walking to the Shell gas station/convienence store to stock up on snacks. So 64.40 euros and 5 bags of junk food later, I returned to the university to help feed several jet lagged children.

I also went on a HUGE copy run today. And when I say HUGE I mean it. There was a 150 page reader that I had to get 9 copies of on top of all the other classes stuff and that was just for the first few days of camp. I think I will have to do more and more as the camp wears on. It's a good thing the guys in reprografia are nice and put up with me.

I went to bed earlier than I have been, but woke up at random times throughout the night as I usually do.

Today I get to go to the airport to pick up one remaining student and also hound Iberia about the lost bag. In addition to put all of our staff pictures up on the staff bulletin board. So hopefully it will be a lowkey day, hopefully.

More later...

I hope the food was sorted out, as a hungry student is a bad student.
