So as the majority who are reading this blog know, ever since I got back to the states last summer from my second trip to Spain with students, I have been itching to get back there. I toyed very seriously for about six months after that trip with the idea of moving to Spain permanently, but for reasons beyond my control, that has not worked out. Which is ok, everything happens for a reason.
Well, since I would not be moving to Spain in August, I made up my mind to get back there this summer in some way, shape or form. I thought about going and studying for a few weeks, but that got to be expensive. Then I remembered that last summer, in my search for a summer job, I had come across a job opportunity through Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. They have programs all throughout the summer here in the US and they also have 4 international sites, Monterrey, Madrid, Hong Kong and China. Due to my trip with students last summer it was impossible for me to apply. But this summer, I am free!
So starting in the late January I began my application. I was able to get the whole, very extensive, application, references and transcripts pulled together by the end of February and sent it off. I didn't think much more about it, other than the fact that it would be incredibly AWESOME if I were to get a job. My heart was set on Madrid but Monterrey would have been pretty darn cool too.
On Tuesday March 24th, I received an email telling me that they looked over my application and would like to set - up a phone interview. I was beside myself with excitement. Here I was one step closer to going to Spain for the summer and getting paid to be there! Needless to say, I set up the interview for the earliest possible day, Monday, March 30th at 4:00pm.
Monday eventually gets here and promptly at 4:00pm, my phone rings and the interview commences. About 45 minutes later, the interview is over and I am feeling pretty good about my answers. The longer I think about it the more I question the answers I did give. But I decided not to dwell on it and just move on and if I get the job, great, if not then so be it.
Then on Monday, April 6th, a mere week after my interview, I receive a JOB OFFER, to be a Residential Program Assistant with CTY Madrid. WooHoo! I am going to Spain!
The job itself is going to be very time consuming, but I am ready for the challenge. My responsibilities begin on Monday, June 29 and last through Sunday, July 26th. The specifics of my job are a bit fuzzy at this point in time. All I know is that I am going to be working with both the residential end of the program and the administrative end, in the office, as well. Regardless, I am ecstatic to have this opportunity and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all!
Be looking out for my next post, which will be on all of the things I need to get together before heading out.
